It's not all woo-woo

I am well aware that once the conversation of spirituality arises, it becomes difficult to maintain an audience. It gets a little "out there", I will admit. But here's the thing; its really not that woo-woo. We now have doctors and scientists studying how the body, mind and spirit (heart) are inter-connected.

While I was on my own healing journey I discovered a Canadian physician, Dr. Gabor Mate; now author and speaker and he researched what trauma does to the body. Before we dive in, there are two types of trauma; Big T and Little T trauma as Dr. Gabor describes it.

Big T traumas represent significant life-threatening events while Little T traumas could represent something as simple as not getting your needs met.

He proceeds to say that when we suppress our hurt, our trauma, big or small, we also suppress part of ourselves or those 'unwanted parts' those part of us that were silenced, and as a result we become fragmented. Pieces of us get lost, damaged or forgotten in order to protect ourselves form the hurt and the pain.

How does this affect the body? As we hide parts of ourselves, we are pretending everything is okay. This puts immense stress on the body. What is the leading cause of diseases? You got it! STRESS! We have now come full circle. Healing isn't always woo-woo. Our bodies are constantly giving us signs that something isn't working or that something isn't aligned.

Dr. Gabor Mate brings language to this Soul-Mending process. He has put a scientific spin on the very spiritual work of soul-mending, being able to factually put into words what happens to your physical body when we become fragmented. What we are talking about is what happens to your true essence; your being, when you become fragmented. Once we begin to suppress our feelings and desires, our body then starts to adjust to these behaviors and develop physical ailments. It starts small by whispers; cannot sleep, cannot focus, headaches. And when you don't listen to those whispers, they begin to yell at you until it's screaming in your face; obesity, heart conditions, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, etc.

We all have some form of childhood trauma and our parents did the best they could with what they knew. In no way, shape or form am I laying any blame on that last little detail. I'm saying as your friend, we all hold onto some trauma that has now shaped us in the most un-authentic way. Therapy can help you attain your ultimate goal, but soul healing fast forwards it. How? No one has the answers but you. You hold all the secrets to what you needed at that moment in time. That hug you wish you got, that kiss, those words of affirmation. This is what Soul-Mending does. Brings you to the most unexpected place, but the ROOT of it. Where it started, when the damage took place, when you had to let go of that part of yourself that you were taught was unworthy.

If you are curious to learn more, I highly recommend The Myth of Normal by Dr. Gabor Mate. Its filled with scientific knowledge and understanding of the body, mind, soul connection. And of course, if you are ever curious to learn more about my healing methods, don't be shy and reach out!
